His obituary reported:

“Robert Edmond "Bob" Pettit, age 76, of Grange City, passed away Tuesday, Feb. 7, 2006, at St Claire Regional Medical Center.

Mr. Pettit was born on Aug. 1, 1929, in Grange City, to the late James Tobe and Amanda Helen Bradshaw Pettit. He was a master carpenter and an accomplished farmer. He was a dedicated backwoodsman and a devoted hunter and was widely recognized for his deep knowledge of native plants, trees and wildlife. Locally he was acknowledged as a skilled gardener and for generous large vegetable harvests that were shared with others in his community. He was also a Kentucky Colonel.

Mr. Pettit served in the U.S. Army from 1952-54, and was a veteran of the Korean War where he experienced harsh action as a member of the 24th Infantry Division. While serving our country in uniform, his travels also took him to Hawaii, Tokyo, Sendai, Yokohama, Mt. Fuji, Osaka, Kobe, Nagasaki and Hiroshima.

Mr. Pettit is survived by his wife of 55 years, Josephine Naomi Shelley Pettit; two daughters, Tresia Swain of Morehead and Melinda Rollins of Mount Sterling; two sons, Randall Pettit of Morehead and Tony Pettit of Grange City; five grandsons, Gabe Swain and Luke Swain, both of Lexington, Travis Pettit of Morehead, Evan Rollins and Jared Rollins, both of Toledo, Ohio; one granddaughter, Lacy Pettit of Morehead; three brothers, Leon Pettit of Winchester, Ohio, Emerson Pettit of Jamestown, Ohio and Vernon Pettit of Grange City; two sisters, Lovell Caudill of Grange City and Nellie Taylor of Flemingsburg, two sons-in-law, Adrian Swain and Dr. Jim; and one daughter-in-law, Regina Pettit. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one sister, Madge Wakely and one brother, Hubert Pettit.”
