Notes for Hosmer Keo & Erna James (Family)
Their marriage license is a bit ambiguous about the place of the marriage. It is was issued in Caldwell Co., Mo, on 5 Aug 1911, and records the marriage of Hosmer K. Switzer, over 21, and Erna J. Riddle, over 18, both residents of Cowgill, Caldwell Co., Missouri, but the return section says that the marriage was performed at “Miss Riddles home in the County of Ray”, by J. A. Medley, resident pastor of Methodist Church of Cowgill, Mo.

What I don’t understand is why Erna was listed on the license as a resident of Cowgill, but the return describes her home as in Ray Co. (which is where the Andrew Wesley family is in the 1900 through 1930 censuses.) Maybe she had two places of residence? (Cowgill is about 4 miles north of the Ray County line, and Knoxville township is just across the border.)

Hosmer and Erna are buried together in Cowgill Cemetery, under a stone inscribed “SWITZER | HOSMER K. 1887 - 1942 | ERNA J. 1890 - 1965”
