Notes for Eleanor Stillwell
The 1900 census gave her birthdate as April 1829, but her parents’ marriage was recorded in Grayson Co. in 1829, so it is more likely that she was born in 1830.
Census Notes for Nathan P. & Eleanor (Family)
1860 census of Carroll Co., Virginia, Hillsville P.O., enumerated 29 June, lists on p. 31 as family #204/205:
Nathan Marshall, 23, farm laborer; Eleanor, 29; Angeline, 7; Armistead, 5; Polly A., 3; Rush F., 1. All born in Virginia.

1870 census of Carroll Co., Virginia, Pine Creek township, enumerated 3 Sep, lists on p. 35 as family #234/241:
Marshall, Nathan, 34, farmer; Elender, 40; Armstead, 14; Polly Ann, 12; Rush F., 10; Lynch E., 8; Lucinda, 6; Lewis W., 4; Amos, 2. All born in Virginia.

1880 census of Carroll Co., Virginia, Pine Creek district, enumerated 18 June, lists on p. 28 as family #250/261:
Marshall, Nathan, 43, farming; Ellenor, 49, wife; Rush Floyd, 21, son; Lucinda, 18, dau; Lynch A. C., 16, son; Lewis William, 13, son; Amos Vincent, 11, son; Joseph M., 9, son; Magguinetz, 6, son; Virginia, 9, dau; Susan, 5, dau; Mary, 69, mother; Abraham, 64, father, b. NC NC NC, line crossed out.

Even though Abraham’s crossed-out line says that he was born in N. Carolina, Nathan’s line says that he was born Va Va Va, just like everyone else’s.

1900 census of Carroll Co., Virginia, Pine Creek district, lists as family #224/232:
Marshall, Nathan, 63, b. June 1836, farmer; Ellender, wife, 70, b. Apr 1829, married 43 years, mother of 10 children, 7 living; Lewis W., son, 33, b. Aug 1866, widowed; Edgar E., grandson, 8, b. Feb 1892; David R., grandson, 7, b. Mar 1893; Sarah V., niece, 22, b. June 1877, single. All born Va Va Va.

If the number of children is correct, then some of the children listed in earlier censuses must not really be Eleanor’s. But I’m leaving them all linked in for now, pending other evidence.

The next household is headed by their son Joseph.
