I am only entering this couple and some of their census notes in order to document the parents of their son James, who married my grandfather’s fourth cousin Maude Largen as his second wife, and my father’s second cousin Anna Florence Caudill as his third wife.

1900 census of Smith Co., Texas, Tyler ward 4, enumerated 23 June, lists on p. 22B as family #450/456:
Clay, Sue H., 52, b. April 1848, Ark Tenn Va, widowed, mother of 6 children, 5 living; Benjamin H., son, 24, b. Nov 1875, clerk in R.R. office; James C., son, 19, b. Nov 1880, clerk in R.R. office; William T., son, 17, b. Jan 1883. All sons born Tx Miss Ark. Plus two unrelated male boarders.
