Sterling, Montgomery Co., Ky, marital status separated, father Dyer Howard, mother’s maiden name Sara Adkins, cause of death bronchopneumonia following surgery for gangrene of leg, informant hospital records, burial in Sandy Hook.

The year of birth is probably incorrect; he was listed in the 1860 census as age 8.

1930 census of Elliott Co., Ky, district 1, lists as family #96/104:
Howard, Lee C., 78, widowed, age at first marriage 20, retired farmer; Miles, Sarah, sister, 80, widowed, age at first marriage 18; Leinheart, Sioux M., sister, 68, widowed, age at first marriage 18. All born Ky Ky Ky.

1880 census of Clay Co., Indiana, Dick Johnson township, enumerated 14 June, lists on p. 16 as family #142/143 and 142/144:
Howard, Lee C., 28, farmer; Sarah E., 25, wife; Bella, 8, dau; James, 23, brother, farmer; Phebie, 22, wife; Jessie K., 17, B Nephew, works on farm; Hunter, John B., 23, boarding, day laborer; Jefferson, 19, boarding, day laborer. All born Ky Ky Ky.

I’m not sure what “B Nephew” means in the relationship column for Jessie. Perhaps the enumerator started to enter either brother or boarder, and then corrected it to nephew without striking out the false start. (If the surname were not Howard, I would guess at “brother’s nephew”, but any nephew of one brother with the same surname would presumably be a nephew of the other as well.)

I also do not know whether this wife Sarah E. is the same wife as the Sarah S. Adkins who was Harvey’s mother. Harvey is living in Elliott Co. in 1880 with Leander’s parents.
