Be careful not to confuse him with James S. Stamper (3 Sep 1865 - 8 Sep 1940) of Carter Co., son of Jackson Stamper and Susan Jennings, who married Genoa Jesse, or with James Stamper (15 Sep 1870 - 23 Oct 1950), son of Wash Stamper and Margaret Short.

1900 census of Morgan Co., Ky, district 6, enumerated 16 June, lists on p. 14B as family #232/234:
Stamper, James, 33, b. June 1866, farmer; Hulda J., wife, 34, b. July 1865, married 14 years, mother of 8 children, 2 living (!); Carter F., son, 12, b. Nov 1887; Minnie B., dau, 9, b. June 1880. All born Ky Ky Ky.
The age for Minnie is inconsistent with the reported birthdate, which was probably meant to be 1890. Both 8’s are very clear; the 0 is not and could be a 9, but 1889 would imply an age of 10.
