Notes for James Thomas
His birthplace is variously given as Virginia (in 1850), Pennsylvania (in 1860), and Maryland (in 1870). And some of the census records for his sons James Jr. and Frank give their father’s place of birth as Kentucky!
Notes for James & Sarah E. (Family)
Fleming Co., Ky marriage bonds record the marriage of James Thomas and Sarah Roise/Royse on 21 Jan 1817 (spelled both ways.) The consent note is signed John Royse.

Maiden name of Rice for Sarah is from the death certificate of their son Frank. I cannot find a marriage record for them in either Morgan or Bath counties, so they may have been married in Fleming or Floyd county.
