Notes for Hobert Curtis
His WW I draft registration, filed 12 Sep 1918, records Hobart Curtis, age 20, born 31 Aug 1898, residence Sharkey, Rowan Co., Ky, occupation farming, nearest relative Bertha M. Curtis, same address.

His gravestone also spells his name as Hobart, although most other records spell it as Hobert, including his death certificate and Social Security record. The draft card, like all of them, is filled out by the registrar, including the signature field, which says “x his mark”. So this probably just indicates the preferred spelling of the registration clerk.

The Kentucky death index lists Hobert Curtis, age 71, died 21 Oct 1969 in Fleming Co., residence same.

The SSDI lists Hobert Curtis, born 31 Aug 1898, died Oct 1969, last residence Morehead, Rowan Co., Ky.
Notes for Bertha May Caudill
Her death certificate records Bertha May Curtis, age 29 years 4 months 11 days, born 10 Dec 1897 in Rowan Co., Ky, died 20 April 1926 in Fleming Co., Ky, married, father W. M. Caudill, mother’s maiden name Caudill, both born in Rowan Co., Ky, cause of death septicemia the result of childbirth, informant S. F. O’Brien, Hillsboro, Ky, burial in Ringos Mills.
Notes for Hobert & Bertha May (Family)
Hobert is listed in Fleming Co. in the 1920 and 1930 censuses, and the births of his children are recorded there, but on the death records of all of the stillborn children, Hobert gave his address as Sharkey, Ky. Sharkey is formally in Rowan Co., although right on the county line, near what is now the Rowan County airport. So they must have lived just across the county line, on the Fleming County side.
