Rowan Co., Ky marriage book 7, p. 159, records the marriage on 9 April 1910 of Garfield Prather and Nannie Lee Flanery.
Census
1910 census of Rowan Co., Ky, district 1, Morehead, enumerated 25 April, lists on p. 6A as family #98/103:
Prather, Garfield, 29, mill laborer; Nannie, wife, 19, first marriage for both, married 0 years, mother of 0 children. Both born Ky Ky Ky.

1920 census of Scioto Co., Ohio, Portsmouth ward 1, enumerated 27 Jan, lists on p. 20B as family #285/593, at 713 Fifth St:
Prather, Garfield, 39, b. Ky N.C. Ky, birler open hearth steel mill; Marnie, wife, 29, b. Ky Ky Ky; Lola, dau, 8; Florine, dau, 6; Edna, dau, 3 3/12. All daughters born Ky Ky Ky.

The next household is headed by Garfield’s sister Blanche.

1930 census of Scioto Co., Ohio, Portsmouth ward 3, enumerated 10 April, lists on pp. 5A-5B as family #113/116, at 1322 Kinneys Lane:
Garfield Prather, 48, age at first marriage 28, b. Ky N.C. Ky, helper open hearth steel mill, (Prather overwritten with Garfield), Nancy Lee, wife, 39, age at first marriage, b. Ky Ky Ky; Prather, Lola, (step) daughter, 19; [p. 5B starts here] Prayther, Florine, dau, 16; Edna, dau, 13. All daughters born Ky Ky Ky.

The “step” for Lola has been written above the word daughter in darker ink, as has the Garfield that overwrites Prather on Nancy’s line. It appears that the census taker wrote the head of household line first name first, and then when going over the listings reconciling inconsistencies, assumed that Garfield was a surname, and therefore that the Prather/Prayther children must be Nancy’s from a previous marriage.
