Notes for Nancy J. Sparks
Nancy is definitely a daughter of Rachel M. Sparks, because In Rachel’s daughter Martha’s 1971 obituary she was described as a surviving sister, Mrs. Nancy Conley of Olive Hill. It is uncertain who her father was. Martha’s father was Leander Mauk, but Nancy’s father may have been either a Click or a Ross, because several online user trees say that Luther Conley married Nancy J. Click, and in the Kentucky birth index for their daughter Helen, Nancy’s maiden name is recorded as Ross. It may instead be, though, that Nancy married a Click before she married Luther Conley. Another possible father is David Lands who married Anna Belle Hyatt; see the 1940 census notes.

1940 census of Rowan Co., Ky, ED 103-8 (Hogtown precinct south of railroad, part of Haldeman and Elliottville), enumerated 16 April, lists on 8A as family #115:
Conley, Luther, 36, laborer at brick yard; Hellen, dau, 13; Della, dau, 10; LeRoy, son, 7; Ina L., dau, 4; Iona, dau, 2. Lands, Charlie, brother-in-law, 22, single, truck driver. All born in Kentucky, living in same place in 1935.
Charlie is probably a half-brother of Nancy. He was living with David Lands and Anna Bell Hyatt in the 1930 census, listed as a son age 12. His birth and death records, though, report his birth date as 16 Sep 1920.
