From Sandra Warren, posted on Ancestry.com: “At about 11:40PM on a Saturday August 30, 1941 at Gold's Beer Garden/Cafe (505 Wayne Avenue), Artie was shot to death by her estranged husband.  According to police reports Artie was sitting at a table with Ivan Martin and Kate Boueier (mother of Ivan) and two other women in the rear of the cafe.  Louis Black, husband of Artie, walked up to their table and began shooting.  Ivan was the first to be shot, then his mother, and finally Artie.  Only Ivan survived with a bullet wound to his left arm. Artie was shot twice in the chest and Kate was shot twice in the head.  Louis then turned the 38 revolver on himself and fired a shot into his head.  Artie Warren nee Vanlandingham was the mother of Kenneth Warren and Lyda Huey nee Warren both of Dayton.  She is buried in the Woodland Cemetery in Dayton, Ohio.”
