Notes for James F. Wilson
Greenup Co., Ky birth records list an unnamed male, born 21 Mar 1852, father David Wilson, mother’s maiden name Nancy Rice.

It is probable that this is for the son James F. Wilson, since there is no other record of a son born in the early 1850’s to David and Nancy (in any county), and no record for a son who died before 1860. He is listed, though, as 6 in the 1860 census, 17 in the 1870 census, 47 born Mar 1853 in the 1900 census, and as born 16 Mar 1854 in Boyd Co. on his death certificate. So it is possible that the unnamed son born in 1852 died before 1860 but his death was not recorded, and James was born in March of 1853 or 1854, and his birth not recorded.

His death certificate records James F. Wilson, age 89 years 11 months 25 days, born 16 March 1854 in Boyd Co., Ky, died 15 Mar 1941 in Carter Co., Ky, widowed, occupation common labor, father David Wilson, born in Fayette Co., Pennsylvania, mother’s maiden name Nancy Rice, born in Boyd Co., Ky, cause of death pneumonia, informant Ed Wilson, Olive Hill, Ky, burial in Dry Branch.
Census Notes for James F. & Nancy M. (Family)
I cannot find this family in the 1880 census. Judging by the reported date and place of birth of their oldest son James, they should have been in Illinois and married. Perhaps they moved that summer, and missed the census taker in both locations.

1900 census of Douglas Co., Illinois, Arcola township, enumerated 18 June, lists on p. 10B as family #192/193:
Wilson, James F., 47, b. March 1853, Ky Penn Ky, day laborer; Nancy M., wife, 45, b. Sep 1854, Ky Va Ky, married 20 years, mother of 8 children, 8 living; James H., son, 20, b. May 1880; Fannie J., dau, 18, b. June 1881; Meda, dau, 16, b. Sep 1883; Rosa B., dau, 14, b. Aug 1886; Ida, dau, 10, b. March 1889; Effie M., dau, 9, b. Dec 1890; David F., son, 7, b. Jan 1893; Maggie, dau, 4, b. Feb 1896. All children born Illinois Ky Ky.

Note that the age and birthdate are inconsistent for Rosa. It is possible that the birthplace of Illinois is incorrect for all or most of the children, since in later records they consistently give their place of birth as Kentucky.

1910 census of Carter Co., Ky, Upper Tygart district, enumerated 27 April, lists on p. 10A as family #192:
Wilson, James F., 57, widowed, farmer; David, son, 17, single; Maggie, dau, 14; Ham, Rosa, dau, 23, widowed, mother of 2 children, 2 living; Aileen F., granddau, 3; William E., grandson, 1 7/12. All listed as born Ky Ky Ky (which conflicts with the 1900 census.)

The preceding household is headed by James’ brother Moses.
