Her obituary in the Dalton Daily Citizen of 22 Feb 2007 reported:

“Mrs. Gladys Shelton, 75, of Dalton passed away, Tuesday evening, Feb. 20, 2007, at Hamilton Medical Center.

She was born April 6, 1931, in Whitfield County, daughter of the late Sam and Mattie (Bennett) Pettit. Her children, Linda Gail Bearden, Dianne Shelton, Charlotte Shelton, Virginia Faye Shelton; grandchild, Justin Dwight Shelton; brother, Clyde Pettit; brothers-in-law, T. L. Shelton and Wayne Bradford also precede her in death.

She was a devoted wife and wonderful mother and was a member of Eleventh Avenue Baptist Church.

She is survived by her loving husband, Willis Shelton of the residence; sons and daughters-in-law, Terry and Lisa Shelton, David and Kathy Shelton, Donald and Debbie Shelton, Jimmy Shelton; daughter and son-in-law, Joanne and Lloyd Hilliard, all of Dalton; son-in-law, Wilford Bearden of Dalton; sister and brother-in-law, Aileen and Harold Shelton, of Dalton; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Estel and Ruby Shelton, Harbin and Dannett Shelton, Thelma and Clint Aldermann, Julie Bradford, JoAnn and Buddy Parker, all of Dalton, Mickie and Oscar Jeter, Jean and Billy Rolen, all of Florida; grandchildren, Tony Wiley, Timmy Bearden, Jennifer and Donnie York, Angela and Todd Griffin, Michelle and Tim Smith, Keith Shelton, Lindsey Shelton; great-grandchildren, Travis Wiley, Preston York, and Savannah York; many nieces and nephews .

Services are today at 2 p.m. at Eleventh Avenue Baptist Church with the Rev. Ronald Guffey officiating.

Burial will be at West Hill Cemetery with Donnie Shelton, Greg Shelton, Timmy Bearden, Charles Nicholson, Donnie York, Marty Akins and Wilford Bearden serving as pallbearers.”
