In the 1850 and 1860 censuses, his middle initials were recorded as “K. P.”, most likely indicating that he was named after President James K. Polk. But by the 1870 census, he was using the middlie initial W, and continued to do so for his entire adult life.

His death certificate records James W. Ingram, age 75 years 10 months 14 days, born 29 Feb 1844 in Robinson Co., Ky, died 13 Jan 1920 in Forest Grove precinct, Clark Co., Ky, married, father James W. Ingram, mother’s maiden name Minerva Cartmill, birthplaces blank, cause of death senile dementia, informant Mrs. R. B. Tankersley, Winchester, Ky, burial in Winchester.

The informant was his daughter Lillie Jane, who married Robert B. Tankersley.
