Notes for Jacob Rogers
The birth date is tentative. His gravestone gives his dates as 1867 -1954, years only. His FindaGrave.com memorial gives his birth date as 9 Aug 1867, presumably from a death certificate (the death date is also from that memorial), but he does not appear with his parents in the 1870 census. He was recorded as age 11 in the 1880 census, age 26 born May 1874 in the 1900 census, and age 38 in the 1910 census. A birth date in 1870 or 1871 seems most likely.

His obituary reported:

“Jacob Rogers, 87, of Camden, died Saturday. He was a native of Manchester, Ky., and was a member of the Baptist Church there. He was a paper maker by trade.

Survivors include three sons, Walter and Irvin Rogers, both of Hamilton; and William Rogers of Manchester; two sisters, Mrs. Sally Martin of Dillsboro, Ind., and Mrs. Lucie Davidson of Oneda, Ky., one brother, Luke Rogers of Manchester, Ky., nine grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren.

Services for Mr. Rogers were held Tuesday afternoon at the R. C. Nein and Son Funeral Home in Camden with burial in Fairhaven Cemetery.”
Notes for Eliza Allen
Clay Co., Ky birth records lists Eliza Allen born 27 Oct 1858, father James G. Allen, mother’s maiden name Easter McCollum.

It is possible that the month of birth was recorded incorrectly, since the 1900 census and her death certificate both say she was born in November.

Her death certificate records Mrs. Eliza Rogers, age 79 years 8 months 4 days, born 27 Nov 1856 in Manchester, Kentucky, died 1 Aug 1936 in Hamilton, Butler Co., Ohio, residence 232 North 4th St, married, wife of Jacob Rogers, father Rev. J. G. Allen, mother’s maiden name Ester McCollum, both born in Manchester, Ky, cause of death cerebral hemorrhage, informant Walter Rogers, same address, burial in Greenwood Cem.
Census
1860 census of Clay Co., Ky, Manchester P.O., enumerated 2 July, lists on p. 106 as family #669:
James G. Allen, 21, farmer; Esther, 24; Mary J., 3; Eliza, 1. William Bishop, 30, farm labor. All born in Clay Co., Ky. (This is one of those precincts where the enumerator recorded the county for everyone born in Ky.)

1870 census of Clay Co., Ky, precinct 3, enumerated 13 July, lists on p. 11 as family #81:
Allen, James, 32, farmer; Ester, 35; Marry, 14; Lizie, 12; Sallie, 10; Ibby, 8; Sophy, 6; Lucy, 4. All born in Kentucky.

The preceding household is headed by Ester’s parents, recorded as George McCollam age 59 and wife Sallie age 55. The next two households are also Allens, Adrisson age 40 with wife Easter age 30, and Jobe age 35 with wife Nancy age 24. The preceding page contains four Allen families.

1880 census of Clay Co., Ky, Bull Skin precinct, enumerated 15 June, lists on p. 28 as family #228/229:
McCollum, George, 68, b. Ky S.C. N.C., farmer; Allen, Liza, 20, granddau, b. Ky Ky Ky; Sarah, 64, wife, b. Ky Ga Ky; Baker, S. Jane, 1, b. Ky Ga Ky.

The baby should be recorded as Mary Jane, not S. Jane, and her father’s birth place should be Kentucky.

The next two households are headed by Burly McCollumn age 23 with wife Tabitha age 24, and David McCollumn age 43 with wife Nancy A. age 30.
Notes for Jacob & Eliza (Family)
Clay Co., Ky marriage records list the marriage on 27 Nov 1890 of Jacob Rogers and Eliza Allen.

This family is in my database because Jacob’s second wife Isabelle Brown was my 2C4R, and her first husband John Tom Pettit was my 1C3R. (Whenever I include a person who had multiple marriages, I like to include family groups for all their marriages, if possible.)
Census
1900 census of Clay Co., Kentucky, Manchester district 1, ED 28, enumerated 22 June, lists on p. 24 as family #392/412:
Rogers, Jacob, 26, b. May 1874; Eliza, wife, 31, b. Nov 1868, married 8 years, mother of 3 children, 3 living; Clara E., dau, 7, b. July 1892; Walter, son, 6, b. July 1892; William, son, 4, b. Sep 1895.

The age and birth date for Eliza are off by 10 years, and she has omitted to count her first child Mary Jane Baker, who was already married. (If it were not for the 1910 census, which has more accurate data, and her death certificate, I would think this was a different Eliza Allen than the one who married Thomas Baker.)

The next household is headed by Jacob’s parents.

1910 census of Clay Co., Kentucky, Manchester precinct, enumerated 16 April, lists on p. 1B as family #18:
Rogers, Jacob, 38, first marriage, farmer; Eliza, wife, 52, second marriage, married 20 years, mother of 7 children, 5 living; Clara Esther, dau, 18; Walter, son, 16; William, son, 14; Irvin, son, 6. All born Ky Ky Ky.

1920 census of Butler Co., Ohio, Hamilton ward 3, enumerated 9 Jan, lists on p. 6A as family #116/148, at 232 N. 4th St:
Rogers, Jacob, 47, laborer at machine shop; Eliza, wife, 62; William, son, 24, polisher at safe works; Erwin, son, 18, laborer at foundry. All born Ky Ky Ky.

They are sharing a house with their daughter Clara, listed as age 27, and her husband Elmer Thacker, age 38, paper maker at paper mill, also born Ky Ky Ky.
