Census
1880 census of Morgan Co., Ky, Black Water precinct, enumerated 15 June, lists on p. 16 as family #135/138:
Bowlin, Harvey, 26, farmer, b. Ky Va Ky; Juda C., 22, wife, b. Ky Ky Ky; Francis A., 9/12, b. Aug, Ky Ky Ky, dau; Day Mida, 4, dau, b. Ky Ky Ky; George Bowlin, 19, brother, b. Ky Ky Ky.

The line for “Day Mida” begins with the dash that indicates a dittoed surname, so following the official formatting conventions, that would mean that her name was “Day Mida Bowlin”. Common sense, though, suggests that her name is really Mida Day, and that she was born to Juda out of wedlock. (Similarly, Harvey’s brother is obviously George Bowlin, even though the “surname first” convention followed on the page in general would imply that it was “Bowlin George”.)
