His death certificate records Fielden Cox, age 70 years 9 months 20 days, born 25 March 1845 in Toliver, died 14 Jan 1915 in precinct 3, Wolfe Co., Ky, married, farmer, father James Cox, mother’s maiden name Annie, both born in Virginia, cause of death cirrhosis of liver, informant Reece Cox, Gosneyville, Ky, burial in Cox graveyard.

Toliver is now in Wolfe County, just outside Hazel Green. But until Wolfe was formed in 1860 it was in Morgan Co.

Census records are more consistent with a birthdate in 1844. He was recorded as 6 in 1850, 17 in 1860, 26 in 1870, 35 in 1880, 56 born Mar 1844 in 1900, and 66 in 1910. Even the reported age at death implies 1844 and is inconsistent with 1845.

Cox, James, 59, farmer; Ann, 59; Fielding, 26; Martha, 19, b. Va; Nancy A., 3; Louellen, 1/12. All except Martha born in Kentucky.

1880 census of Wolfe Co., Ky, precinct 2, enumerated 12 June, lists on p. 22 as family #169:
Cox, Fielden, 35, farmer, b. Ky Ky Ky; Martha, 30, wife, b. Va Va Va; Alice, 13, dau; Louellen, 10, dau; Emma J., 8, dau; Mary B., 6, dau; John W., 4, son; James S., 1, son. All children born Ky Ky Va.

The next household is that of Fielden’s parents.

(Judging by the 1880 census, the birthdates for Emma and Mary may be one year too late.)

This page is very faint and hard to read. Many words are almost invisible. Ancestry.com has transcribed the name of the son as Lillie J, but judging by the 1900 census, it is likely to be Chris C. They have transcribed the given name of the stepdaughter as Gerssedia Trott, but the 1900 census suggests that should be Russia M. Tutt.
