The SSDI lists Adelaide M. Roberts, born 19 Nov 1929, died 28 Sep 2007, last residence Eustis, Lake Co., Florida, SSN issued in Kentucky in 1956.

Her obituary in the Orlando Sentinel reported:

“EUSTIS -- Charity might begin at home, but for Adelaide M. Roberts, it went a lot further.

Not only did she make sure her five children went to college, but she and her late husband, O.H. Roberts, helped other children receive the advantages of a higher education.

"One goal was for all her children to graduate -- education was important," said daughter Susan Seabrook of Mount Pleasant, S.C. "Not only did she put their children through college, they helped put other people through college, too."

Roberts died from complications of heart surgery Sept. 28. She was 77.

Roberts was born in Mount Sterling, Ky. Her connections with Florida go back generations, with snowbird grandparents and parents with a winter home in Eustis.

In high school, she was captain of the cheerleading squad and dated O.H. Roberts, captain of the football team. She was queen of the Coronation Ball, similar to the prom, and a class officer during her junior year. She graduated in 1947 and married her high-school sweetheart that summer.

She busied herself with raising a family of five kids, and her husband worked in her father's family business, McCormick Lumber Co.

In 1958, the family moved to Eustis to take advantage of the housing boom, and her husband started O.H. Roberts Construction Co. to build homes for the influx of new residents. O.H. Roberts died in 2002. The company is known today as Roberts Construction Co. and is operated by son O.H. "Rusty" Roberts III of Umatilla.

"Mom and Dad were very frugal," Seabrook said. "They did not believe in wasting. Mom, especially, she would do without to give to her children or someone that needed it more. She always felt very blessed."

Seabrook said although she did not realize it at the time, her parents were not only putting their own children through school -- they also helped friends pay their bills and send their children to college, and supported several missionaries.

Roberts also was a Boy Scout and Girl Scout leader and a member of First Church of Christ in Eustis.

"We were in church every Sunday, and they would know when we came in with five kids," Seabrook said. "We were usually running late with someone not able to find a shoe or something and we always made an entrance."

Roberts was a member of the Eustis Historical Society and P.E.O. Chapter of Eustis, a philanthropic educational organization. She was active in the Azalea Garden Club of Eustis and often drove other members to meetings.

Roberts also was a volunteer for Hospice Hope Chest and Women for Hospice.

"She never seemed to miss an opportunity to help other people," Seabrook said.

In addition to Seabrook and Rusty Roberts, Adelaide Roberts is survived by sons John M. Roberts and David Roberts, both of Eustis; daughter Patricia R. Odom of LaGrange, N.C.; brothers Ollie McCormick and Jack McCormick, both of Mount Sterling, Ky.; and 12 grandchildren.”
