1900 census of Bath Co., Ky, Owingsville precinct, enumerated 11 June, lists on p. 10A as family #212/214:
Clark, Livy, 70, b. Sep 1829, widowed, 0 children, 0 living; McLain, Livy, grandniece, 15, b. Nov 1884. Both born Ky Ky Ky.
The head of household here is Livia Spencer, widow of Hugh Clark. This suggests that Livia McClain is a granddaughter of one of Hugh’s siblings, or one of Livia Spencer’s siblings. Hugh Clark had no sisters, and very few nieces, none of whom seem to have married a McClain. Livia’s sister Martha married George McClain, and they had 7 sons (and 5 daughters.) So she is very likely to be a granddaughter of George McClain and Martha Spencer, but since her first appearance in the census is this one, it will require research into other records (death, obituary, etc.) to determine her parents. Note that she may not be an orphan in 1900 - considering their relative ages, she may be living with her great aunt to provide assistance, rather than being a ward.
