His given name appears as Leonard in 1900, Lenox in 1910, Lennie in 1920, and apparently as Joseph S. in 1880 (see census notes for his parents.) With that amount of variation, rather than put a string of alternate names in his name field, I’m just entering his name as Len.

His death certificate records Len Collins, age 71, born 9 Oct 1859, birthplace blank, died 27 Feb 1930 in Owingsville, Bath Co., Ky, farmer, married, father Pad Collins, mother’s maiden name Julia Donaldson, both born in Ky, cause of death lobar pneumonia, informant Clarance Collins, burial in Jackson Cemetery.

His gravestone has his name as Len, and his birthdate as 9 Oct 1871, which is more consistent with census records.

1910 census of Bath Co., Ky, Wyoming precinct, enumerated 26 April, lists on p. 4A as family #48:
Collins, Lenox, 38, first marriage, iron ore miner; Docia D., wife, 32, second marriage, married 13 years, mother of 1 child, 1 living; Clarence, son, 12; Goodpaster, Lacy M., nephew, 8. All born Ky Ky Ky.

Lacy is the son of John Q. Goodpaster (Docia’s brother) and Emily Collins (Len’s sister), so he is a double nephew. He also appears with his parents in this census year. He later married Lida Riddle.

1920 census of Bath Co., Ky, Owingsville precinct, enumerated 5 Feb, lists on p. 11A as family #239/264:
Collins, Lennie, 46, farmer; Dosia, wife, 42; Clarence, son, 22; May, daughter in law, 21; Evertt C., grandson, 2. All born Ky Ky Ky.

In 1930 Dosha was listed with Clarence and May, as Dosha, mother (in-law partially erased), 51, widowed, b. Ky Ky Ky.
