Notes for Jacob & Sarah (Family)
Scioto Co., Ohio marriage records list the marriage on 19 Feb 1860 of Jacob Miller and Sarah Salisbury.

Jacob and Sarah are buried together, with their years only, as Jacob 1817-1896, and Sarah 1832-1872. This may indicate that they did not divorce, but unless I’ve misidentified the 1870 census, Jacob had a different wife in 1870. So most likely their children just decided to bury them together anyway.
Census
1860 census of Scioto Co., Ohio, Brush Creek township, enumerated 4 Aug, P.O. Locust Grove, Adams Co., Ohio, lists on p. 17 as family #107:
Jacob Miller, 40, farmer; Sarah, 30; James H., 18; Nancy, 15; Robert, 13; Betsy, 11; Delila, 3. All born in Ohio.

Since Jacob and Sarah are newlyweds, all the children are from Jacob’s first marriage.

1870 census of Scioto Co., Ohio, Brush Creek township, Lucasville P.O., enumerated 16 July, lists on p. 36 as family #253/256:
Miller, Jacob, 5* (ink blot), farmer; Mary, 48; Sarah, 18; William, 14; John, 8. All born in Ohio.

Sarah is most likely Jacob’s daughter Sarah Elizabeth, who would really be 21. I do not know who the parents of William and John are; they may be Mary’s children from an earlier marriage with their surname listed incorrectly, or they may be grandchildren. They are unlikely to be Jacob’s, since William was not listed with the family in 1860. (Too bad the censuses did not start listing relationships until 1880.)

I have not found Jacob’s second wife Sarah or their children in the 1870 census, even doing first name only searches on all the family members. (Another possibility is that this record is for a different Jacob Miller, and Jacob and Sarah were still together in 1870, and were both missed by the census. But I cannot find any other records for another Jacob Miller of the same generation in Scioto Co.)

1880 census of Scioto Co., Ohio, Brush Creek township, enumerated 7 June, lists on p. 13 as family #85/94:
Millar, Jacob, 58, farmer, divorced; Rosa Ann, 20, dau; Richard, 18, son; Peter, 17, son; Paul, 16, son; Catharine, 15, dau. All born Oh Oh Oh.

Based on their death records, the children are all from Jacob’s second marriage, to Sarah Salisbury, who apparently moved back with their father after Sarah died. The preceding household is headed by Jacob’s son Robert, and the following household by his son James, both from his first marriage to Lidda Jane Davis.
