Reports of his birthdate vary greatly. He was recorded as 29 in the 1880 census (in Pulaski Co., Missouri with his first wife Sarah), as born July 1850 in the 1900 census, as age 58 in the 1910 census, as age 64 in the 1920 census, and as born 10 Oct 1843 on his death certificate. The latter records are all in Menifee Co., Ky. I am not entering the census records into my database unless I find evidence that he is related to my Cox/Cock line.
His death certificate records John A. Cox, age 78, born 10 Oct 1843 in Via, died 17 Nov 1921 in Menifee Co., Ky, father Blue John Cox, mother’s maiden name Ann Crow, cause of death consumption of bowels, burial in Union Cemetery. The informant is blank, but the medical section is signed by S. S. Swango. The marital status section says single, but it must be incorrect; there is no elderly and single John Cox in the 1920 census of Menifee Co.
His gravestone is inscribed J. A. Cox, Born July 12, 1845, Died Nov 22, 1921.
