I cannot find this family in the 1920 or 1930 censuses.

1940 census of Rowan Co., Ky, Pine Grove precinct, enumerated 29 April, lists on p. 19A as family #286:
Markwell, Garfield, 59, labor at saw mill; Suda, wife, 50; Maudie, dau, 22, single. All born in Kentucky, living in Ermine, Letcher Co., Ky in 1935.

Garfield was also recorded on April 20 at a lumber camp in Letcher Co. with two of his brothers and his son Everett.
