Notes for Nancy Jane Fultz
Her death certificate records Nancy Jane Stephens, age 83 years 1 month 24 days, born 18 Dec 1845 in Kentucky, died 12 Feb 1929 in Limeville, Greenup Co., Ky, widowed, father Morgan Fultz, mother’s maiden name Polly Ann Sparks, birthplaces blank, cause of death broncho-pneumonia, informant L. C. Mauck, Siloam, Ky, burial in Siloam Cem.

The age and birthdate are probably wrong; she was recorded as age 8 in the 1850 census, with three younger siblings, aged 5, 4 and 1. (I have not found her in the 1860 and 1870 censuses; she probably had an earlier husband. Do not confuse her with the Nancy J. Fultz, born about 1847, daughter of Daniel Fultz and Rebecca Presley, who married David Waggoner.)
Census
1900 census of Elliott Co., Ky, Moccasin precinct, enumerated 8 June, lists on p. 5A as household #70, living alone:
Stephens, Nancy J., 55, b. Dec 1845, Ky Ky Ky, widowed, mother of 0 children, 0 living.

The preceding household is headed by James Stephens, age 28, with wife Eliza.

1910 census of Elliott Co., Ky, Sinking precinct, enumerated 5 May, lists on p. 9B as family #148/151:
Stephens, James, 36, farmer; Eliza A., wife, 32, first marriage for both, married 17 years, mother of 6 children, 5 living; Bessie J., dau, 15; Bertha A., dau, 13; Nancy E., dau, 10; Erma M., dau, 5; David L., son, 2; Nancy J., mother-in-law, 65, widowed. All born Ky Ky Ky.

I suspect that the proper relationship for Nancy is stepmother rather than mother-in-law.
Notes for William & Nancy Jane (Family)
It is quite possible that I have identified the wrong husband for Nancy Jane Fultz. The reported age of 21 for William’s wife in the 1880 census is very young; Nancy Jane Fultz would be about 36 to 38. There is no other Nancy Stephens in the Carter/Elliott/Rowan/Greenup/Lewis county area in the 1880 census who would fit, but it is possible that Nancy Jane Fults was still married to her first husband in 1880, and sometime in between 1880 was widowed, remarried to a Stephens, and then widowed for a second time before 1900.
Census
1880 census of Carter Co., Ky, precinct 6, enumerated 19 June, lists on p. 38 as family #305:
Stephens, William, 25, farmer; Nancy, 21, wife; Geo Wm, 4, son; Elizabeth, 2, dau; John H., 3/12, b. Mar, son. All listed as born Ky Ky Ky, although other records say that his father was born in Tennessee or Virginia.

The next household is headed by William’s brother Greenville.
