Census Notes for Lewis & Margaret (Family)
1860 census of Johnson Co., Ky, Paintsville precinct, enumerated 20 July, lists on p. 117 as family #747/746:
Lewis Williams, 32, farmer; Margaret, 32; Benjmin S., 7; Franklin W., 5; Wm K., 3; Amanda, 10/12. All born in Kentucky.

1870 census of Johnson Co., Ky, Flat Gap precinct, Paintsville P.O., enumerated 10 Aug, lists on p. 33 as family #234:

The sex for Martha is recorded as male but should be female. (I originally thought it might say Matthew or Mathen, because the handwriting is cramped, but the 1880 census is consistent with Martha.)

1880 census of Johnson Co., Ky, Flat Gap precinct, Paintsville P.O., enumerated 8 June, lists on p. 13 as family #107/114:
Williams, Lewis, 52, farmer, b. Ky Va Ky; Margaret, 52, wife, b. Ky Va Va; William, 23, son, teacher; Amanda, 20, dau; Eliphis T., 16; Martha J., 14; Francis (f), 10; Preston, son, 6. All children born Ky Ky Ky.

(This census is rather amusing because the enumerator recorded the occupation of all the women other than the head of household as “ass house keeper”. I’m sure it was intended as assistant, but it makes it look like they’re keeping a house full of asses.)
