He was recorded as Samuel age 9 in the 1860 census, and as Samuel age 17 in 1870.

Her death certificate records Siss Harper, “cant get correct age about 82”, born in Kentucky or Virginia, died 25 Dec 1934 in White Oak precinct, Morgan Co., Ky, “not divorced married not living together Sam Harper”, father Raleigh Lykins, mother’s maiden name Sarah Buffington, both born in Ky, cause of death pneumonia fever, informant Edward Harper, White Oak, Ky, burial in Oney graveyard.

1900 census of Bath Co. Ky, White Sulphur precinct, enumerated 12 June, lists on p. 11A as family #209:
Harper, William, 37, b. May 1863, b. Va Va Va, farm work; Narcisie, wife, 36, b. May 1864, Ky Ky Ky, married 18 years, mother of 8 children, 7 living; Johnie, son, 14, b. May 1886; Lillie, dau, 12, b. Nov 1887; Willie G., son, 12, b. Jan 1888; Keltie, son, 6, b. 1894; Callie, dau, 6, b. 1894; David, son, 4, b. 1896. All children are listed as born Ky Ky Ky, although it should be Ky Va Ky.

The age for William and Narcissie are both off by about a decade. (This is also the only record that I’ve seen where his name is given as William rather than Samuel or Sam.) The reported birthdates for Lillie and Willis are inconsistent, unless one of them is adopted, since they are only two months apart.

1910 census of Morgan Co., Ky, River precinct, enumerated 25 April, lists on p. 8A as family #113/110:
Harper, 55, b. Va Va Va, farmer; Sissie, wife, 55, b. Ky Ky Ky, first marriage for both, married 30 years, mother of 8 children, 7 living; John D., son, 24; Willie, son, 22; Kellie, son, 18; Edward, son, 16. All sons born Ky Va Ky.

1920 census of Magoffin Co., Ky, Grape Creek precinct, enumerated 21 Jan, lists on p. 7B as family #127/123:
Harper, Narcisie, 60, widowed, farmer; John D., son, 36, single; William S., son, 25. All listed as born Ky Ky Ky, although it should be Ky Va Ky for the men.

Narcissie was not really widowed, but separated.
