His death certificate records Thomas Pollitt, age 78, born 1840 in Kentucky, died 26 Jan 1918 in Fleming Co., Ky, farmer, father Thomas Pollitt, mother’s maiden name Nancy Mineer, both born in Ky, cause of death chronic interstitial nephritis, informant Commodore Pollitt, Vanceburg, Ky, burial in Foxport.

The marital status section has checkmarks by both widowed and married. I take this to mean that he had been widowed, remarried, and his second wife survives. It is unlikely to mean that he is currently widowed, because everyone widowed was once married.

Note that there was also a Thomas Alexander Pollitt in Lewis Co., born 10 Sep 1825, died 18 Nov 1895, son of Robert Pollitt, who married Eliza DeAtley, and had children Charles, William H, John Franklin, Laura Belle, Lucy A, Richard Presley, Emma, and Milton. So be careful not to confuse the two families.

She is probably the youngest child in this household:

The death certificate of Thomas’s son Eddie gives his mother’s maiden name as Elizabeth Hiller born in Mason Co; the death certificate of Thomas’s son Commodore gives his mother’s maiden name as Sarah Jones born in Fleming Co. (The death certificates that I’ve found for his other children just say the mother’s name is unknown.) It is possible that Thomas had three wives, but for now I am assuming that the wife Sarah E. recorded with him in the 1880 census was the mother of all of his children.

I cannot find this family in the 1870 census. They may have been in the process of moving from one county to another that summer - it appears from the reported birthplaces of their children that they lived in Lewis, Mason, Bracken and Fleming counties in the decade between 1866 and 1876.

The death certificate of Alvin identifies his mother as Lina. I do not have any evidence to the parents of Nettie or Sarah.
