The Ohio death index lists William E. Staton, age 79, born 24 Aug 1925, died 1 July 2005 at a private residence in Richland, Richland Co., Ohio, divorced, father’s surname Staton, mother’s maiden name Griffith.

His obituary as posted on the Barkdull Funeral Home web site reported:

“William E. "Coonie" Staton, age 79, resident of Shelby died Friday, July 1, 2005 at the home of his daughter in Shelby.

Born August 24, 1925 in Chesapeake, WV to William and Maudie (Griffith) Staton he had been a Shelby resident the majority of his life.

Mr. Staton was a retired union painter and a member of the VFW, Shelby Moose, and the Eagles. An avid card player, he enjoyed fishing, cooking and spending time with his grandchildren.

Survivors include two sons and daughters-in-law; Larry and Linda Banks and Bill and Tammy Staton, all of Shelby; four daughters and three sons-in-law, Marsha and Julian "Mook" Barnard of Shelby; Tina and Mike McDaniel of Mansfield; Faith Deal of Mansfield, and Robin and Mark Black of Nashville, TN; 12 grandchildren, 11 great grandchildren; one sister and brother-in-law, Margaret and Ovel Hensley of Cocoa Beach, FL; nieces, nephews and other relatives. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by three brothers and five sisters.”

“Mary Ann Takos, age 73, resident of Springmill North Rd., Shelby died Thursday, February 9, 2006 in Heritage Care Center following an extended illness.

Born June 10, 1932 in Morehead, KY to Dennis and Cornelia (Fisher) Hall she had been a Shelby area resident the majority of her life. She had been employed with the former Quanex Corporation.

An avid reader, she enjoyed world events, poetry, bird watching, doll collecting and her grandchildren.

Survivors include one daughter, Marsha Barnard of Shelby; two sons and daughters-in-law, Larry and Linda Banks of Mansfield and Bill and Tammy Staton of Shelby; nine grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; one sister, Nola Faye Walton of Shelby; one brother and sister-in-law, Charley and June Hall of Shelby; nieces, nephews and other relatives. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her former husband and good friend, William 'Coonie' Staton in 2005; an infant son, Steve Allen Staton and five brothers, Avery, Cleo, Chester, Garvin, and Wilburn Hall.

Funeral services will be held 2:00 PM Monday from the Barkdull Funeral Home. Reverend Gary Adkins will officiate with interment in Oakland Cemetery.”
