Notes for David Fookes
His death certificate records David Fookes, age 60, born 10 Mar 1876 in Kentucky, died 27 Oct 1945 in rural Harrison Co., Ky, married, husband of Martha Dunn Fookes, farmer, father George Fookes, mother’s maiden name Elizabeth Kearns, both born in Kentucky, cause of death paralysis right side, informant Mrs. David Fookes, Boyd R.1, burial in Battle Grove Cemetery.

The reported year of birth may be off by a year. It is consistent with the 1880 census, which reported him as age 4 in June, but his siblings Luther and Lucinda, twins, who were recorded as age 4 that year, reported their birthdates as 22 Sep 1876. Babies cannot be born to the same mother six months apart. So either David was born in 1875, or the twins were born in 1877. Later censuses for David are not any help in resolving the question, because they are so irregular. He was recorded as 27 in 1910 (implying 1883), as 43 in 1920 (implying 1876, since that one is taken in Jan), and as 50 in 1930 (implying 1880.)
Census
I cannot find him in the 1900 census, but several pages of the Harrison county census for that year are so whited out that most of the names cannot be read at all.
Notes for David & Martha (Family)
I am not entering any of the children of this family, because my only purpose in entering the couple is to hold the notes concerning David’s birthdate, which serve as (mostly conflicting) evidence for the birth date of his brother Luther.
