The Ogden Standard Examiner of 8 June 1904 reported:

“BISHOP KILLED Santa Fe N M June 8 J B Ashcroft of Fruitland, a bishop of the Mormon church and manager of the operative cooperative co store at Fruitland was accidentally killed while blasting rock in the construction of an irrigating ditch for the Navajo Indians near Fruitland. He was knocked from a cliff by falling rocks death resulting instantly.”
