Notes for John & Margaret (Family)
Bath Co., Ky marriage book 1 records the marriage on 3 Jan 1826 of John Richards to Margaret Robbins, daughter of James Robbins.
Census
1850 census of Bath Co., Ky, district 1, enumerated 26 Aug, lists on p. 76 as family #535:
Margaret Richards, 44, farming; Louisa, 22; Elizabeth, 20; Mary, 17; Jenetta, 14; William W., 11; Sarah J., 8; John F., 6; Amanda, 3; Margaret, 3 (twins). All born in Kentucky.

1860 census of Bath Co., Ky, enumerated 29 July, lists on p. 180 as family #1073:
Margaret Richards, 54, farmer; John, 17, farm hand; Margaret, 14; Linsey (male), 32, farm hand; Jane, 19. All born in Kentucky.

What this looks like, considering the Linsey and Jane are listed out of age order, is that Jane is Linsey’s wife. But I cannot find any other record of Linsey, either earlier or later. Nor can I find Louisa in 1860, and since she never married, it is likely that she would be living with her mother in 1860, just as she was in all the other census years. So it is very possible that Louisa was misrecorded as Linsey and the gender assumed from the name, and that Jane is the daughter listed as Sarah J. age 8 in 1850.

Elizabeth Richards was recorded with Janetta/Jennella and her husband John H. Shrout in this census.

1870 census of Bath Co., Ky, White Sulphur precinct, enumerated 17 June, lists on p. 37 as family #250:
Richards, Margret, 65; Louisa, 43; Elizabeth, 39, blind; Wm W., 7. All born in Kentucky.

(Mary and John F. are recorded in Jackson Co., Missouri in this census year with Jenella and her husband.)

1875 Kansas state census of Marshall Co., Ks, Vermillion township, enumerated 1 Mar 1875, lists on p. 22 as family #161/167:
Jno F. Richards, 29, farmer; Louisa, 47; Margaret, 68; Wm W., 13. All born in Kentucky, all residing in Missouri prior to moving to Kansas.

1880 census of Marshall Co., Kansas, Wells district, enumerated 10 June, lists on p. 12 as family #111:
Richards, John, 32, single, farmer; Margaret, 74, mother, widowed; Louiza, 53, sister, single; Margaret, 27, sister, single; William, 17, brother. All born Ky Ky Ky.

It is very unlikely that William is really John’s brother, since Margaret would have been 58 when he was born. (Also she had a son of that name born about 1838 who died in 1853.) It is more likely that he is a son of Louisa.

1885 Kansas state census of Marshall Co., Ks, Rock township, enumerated 1 Mar 1885, lists on p. 10 as family #29:
William W. Richards, 22, farmer; Margret, 80, widowed; Louise, 57, single; Elisabeth, 50, single.
