Notes for James Albert Munday
His gravestone gives his birth date as 2 Oct 1858, and the 1900 census also recorded it as Oct 1858. If his parents are really John Dickerson Munday and Cynthia Ann Birkhead, as is shown on many family trees on Ancestry.com, then that date is incorrect by at least four years, more likely five, because the 1860 census recorded the son James of John D Munday as age 6, with two younger sisters ages 4 and 2, and the 1870 census concurred in recording James age 16, Lucy age 14, and Emma age 12.

There was a James A. Mundy in Amherst Co., Virginia, son of John C. Mundy and Cynthia Jane Dillard, listed as age 2 in 1860, age 12 in 1870, and age 21 in 1880, who fits better agewise, but that would not explain James and Mary naming their first son Albert Dickerson. Also, that James A. Mundy was still living with his parents in Amherst Co., Va in 1880. The James A. Munday who married Mary Catherine Otis is most likely the one who was recorded in Rowan Co., Ky in 1880, as age 23, a member of a railroad construction crew.

The date of death is from his gravestone, a double one with Mary. I cannot find him in the West Virginia or Kentucky death records, which would be helpful for resolving the parent question.
Census
In 1880 he is recorded in Rowan Co., Ky as a boarder (along with seven other railroad workers from Virginia) with the family of Alexander Hall and Clerinda Martin, as James Monday, 23, single, b. Va Va Va, works on railroad.
Notes for Mary Catherine Otis
Her death certificate records Mary C. Munday, age “79?”, birthdate “?”, born in Ky, died 20 June 1945 in Omar, Logan Co., West Virginia, father William Otis, born in Ky, widow of James A. Munday, mother’s maiden name blank, cause of death bronchial pneumonia, informant Elzie Munday, Omar, W.Va., burial in Salt Lick, Ky.
Notes for James Albert & Mary Catherine (Family)
Their gravestone spells their surname as Mundy, probably indicating that it was erected by one of their sons who used that spelling, most likely Albert.
