Notes for Oscar Bright Herrin
Oscar seems to have been unsure of his birthdate.

In 1880 he was recorded with his parents as age 2. The 1900 census recorded Oscar Herrin, age 23, b. Dec 1876, Ky Ky Ky, farm laborer, living in East Union precinct, Nicholas Co., Ky, with the family of Roger F. Potts, age 24, and wife Pickett T. Potts, age 23.

His WW I draft registration card, filed 12 Sep 1918 in Paris, Bourbon Co., Ky, records Oscar Bright Herrin, age 40, residence R.F.D. 3, Mount Sterling, born 25 Jan 1878, merchant, self-employed, nearest relative Aarrie Ethel Herrin, same address.

His death certificate records Oscar B. Herrin, age 45 years 3 months 16 days, born 5 Oct 1877 in Ky, died 21 Jan 1923 in Mayors Office precinct, Carlisle, Nicholas Co., Kentucky, married, merchant, self-employed, father Jno Herrin, mother’s maiden name Mary Jewel, cause of death tuberculosis of lunges, informant Mrs. O. B. Herrin, Carlisle, Ky, burial in Carlisle, Ky.

The Dec 1876 date conflicts with the birthdate of his brother Henry on 8 Dec 1876, which was recorded in Nicholas Co. birth records. (If they were twins, they would have both been recorded in the same report and would not have been reported as different ages in the 1880 census.) The 5 Oct 1877 date is only 10 months after Henry’s birth, which is extremely close birth spacing in the days when premature infants seldom survived. That makes the January 1878 date from the draft registration most plausible, although uncertain.
Notes for Ethel Ora Highley
Her death certificate records Ethel Herrin, age 40 years 5 months, born 19 June 1890 in Ky, died 4 Oct 1930 in Olive Hill, Carter Co., Kentucky, widow of Oscar Herrin, father Jeff Highley, mother’s maiden name Lareh Shrout, both born in Ky, cause of death tuberculosis of lungs, informant Jeff Highley, Olive Hill, Ky, burial in Carlisle, Ky.
