His obituary reported:

“MOREHEAD – Billy Gene Bowling, Jr., 48, of Rock Fork Road, Morehead, Kentucky, passed away Thursday, February 17, 2011, at Cabell Huntington Hospital in Huntington, West Virginia, from injuries sustained in an accident.

    Born September 30, 1962, in Rowan County, Kentucky, he is the son of Billy Gene and Opal Rivers Bowling of Olive Hill, Kentucky.

    In addition to his parents, Billy is survived by his wife of 25 years, Michelle Branham Bowling, whom he married December 21, 1985. Also, three sisters, Jewell McCormick of Olive Hill, Kentucky, Cathy (John) Ingle of Morehead, Kentucky, and Nancy (Jackie) Branham of Olive Hill, Kentucky; several nieces and nephews; three great nieces and nephews; and many friends.

    He was preceded in death by paternal grandparents, Noah and Lillian Bowling, and maternal grandparents, Forest and Alma Rivers.

    Billy graduated from West Carter High School in 1980, retired as a locksmith from Morehead State University in 2005, and was currently an employee of Eldridge & Son Farm Supply. He enjoyed horseback riding, watching football, trading knives and taking care of his animals.

    Funeral services were 1 p.m. Monday, February 21, 2011, at Northcutt & Son Home for Funerals Memorial Chapel with Brother Jack Templeman and Brother Don Rivers officiating. Burial was in Bowen Chapel Cemetery, Carter County. Pallbearers at funeral home: Bobby Rivers, James Rivers, Bruce Butler, David Bowling, Brad Anderson, Paul Glesge, and Jason Anderson. Pallbearers at graveside: C. J. Branham, Johnny Dale Ingle, Patrick McCormick, Brandon Branham, B. J. Branham, Jason Branham, and Travis Sloan.

    Visitation was Sunday, February 20, 2011, at Northcutt & Son Home for Funerals, Morehead. In lieu of flowers, contributions are suggested to Saving the Animals of Rowan (STAR), UPO 791, Morehead, KY 40351”
