Notes for James M. Jones
Identification as a son of Thomas Jones and Mary Katherine Smith is based on the fact that their daughter Alice, widow of Harry Johnson, was living with James and Phoebe in the 1940 census, recorded as his sister.

His WW I draft registration card, filed 12 Sep 1918, records James Jones, age 35, residence Rt. #1, Flemingsburg, Ky, born 8 Dec 1884, occupation farming, employer Mrs. Will Smith, nearest relative Febe Ingram Jones, wife, same address.

He is probably the “Tim Jones” listed in the following household in 1900, with “Jim” misheard. (There is no match for a Tim in any other census year, and the next household includes his brother Lewis, and both he and Phoebe were living with William and Margaret in the 1910 census.)

Jones, of legal age (unspecified), both parents born in Fleming Co., to Phoebe Ann Ingram, age 22, father born in Fleming Co. Both residents of Fleming Co. and born in Fleming Co., parents not named, first marriage for both. Marriage performed by Rev. W. W. Sparks at his house, witnesses Mrs. W. W. Sparkes and Mrs. Roger Cassity. Bond surety by Harry M. Hanley.
