His obituary in the Middletown Journal of 18 June 1984 reported:

“Kelly Bruce Sorrell, 88, of 1910 Queen Ave., died Sunday at 9:05 p.m. at his residence.

A native of Scranton, Ky., he had lived here 71 years. He was employed by the Middletown Department of Public Utilities for 12 years, retiring in 1964. He attended the First Church of God and was a member of the Fraternal Order of Eagles 528 of Middletown, American Legion Post 218 and the Fraternal Order of Orioles. He was a past president of the local chapter of the AFL-CIO.

His wife, Dortha B., died in January 1982.

He is survived by a son, Victor E. of Middletown; three daughters, Mrs. Pauline Haddix of Middletown, Mrs. Naomi Faye Blanton of Monroe and Mrs. Barbara J. Keys of Lebanon; 13 grandchildren, 18 great-grandchildren; and a sister, Mrs. Lexie Hatfield of Franklin.

Funeral services will be Wednesday at 10:30 a.m. at the Joseph R. Baker Funeral Home, the Rev. Rodney Williams officiating. Burial will be in Butler County Memorial Park with military rites by Post 218. Visitation will be Tuesday from 7 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home with services by the Eagles Lodge at 7:30 p.m. Memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of Middletown.”
