Notes for William Walker Jones
U.S. Civil War records list William Walker Jones, residence Jacksonville, Floyd Co., Virginia, enlisted as a private in Company H, Virginia 54th Infantry Regiment on 1 Oct 1861. On 7 Oct 1902 he applied for a Civil War Confederate veteran’s pension as Walker Jones, age 68, residence Pulaski Co., Virginia, born in Franklin Co., Virginia.

Walker is probably a descendant of my 6th great grandparents Robert Jones and Mary Van Meter, since he was born in Franklin Co., Virginia and his mother remarried to a Hill after his father died. My Jones family were intermarried with the Hills in Franklin Co. and then migrated to Floyd Co. (E.g., Thomas Jones b. 1748 married Joanna Hill, and Abraham J. Jones b. 1818 married Nannie Hill.) But Robert and Mary had five sons most of whom also had multiple sons, and Walker was born late enough that he would be about three or four generations removed, so it would require examination of deeds, wills, etc. to determine where he fits in. If he is Robert and Mary’s great-grandson but not through their son Henry, then he would be my 2nd cousin 5 times removed; if he is their great-great-grandson not through Henry’s line then he would be my 3rd cousin 4 times removed.
Notes for William Walker & Elizabeth Susan (Family)
Floyd Co., Virginia marriage records list the marriage on 8 Oct 1853 of Walker Jones and Elizabeth S. Young by Michael Howry of the Baptist Church. Consent notes are attached from Mary Hill mother of Walker and George Young father of Elizabeth. (This probably indicates that Walker’s mother had remarried to a Hill, rather than it being her maiden name.)
