Her obituary on the funeral home web site reported:

“Betty Jean Smallwood, age 75,Frenchburg,Ky passed away Tuesday December 11, 2007 at the Edgewood Estates Nursing Home, Frenchburg, Ky after an extended illness. She was born October 6, 1932 in Menifee County, Ky, daughter of the late Alfred Gibbs & Anna Slusher Gibbs.

She was preceded in death by her husband Della Smallwood and one brother Chester Gibbs and one sister Priscilla Schwettman. She was a member of the Church of God and was a mother, grandmother and homemaker.

Surviving is one daughter Sheila & David Hale of Wellington, Ky and three sons Wallace & Charlene Smallwood of Denniston, Ky, Roger & Bernice Smallwood of Wellington, Ky and David & Jennifer Smallwood of Denniston, Ky. Three sisters Ethel Birich of Lebanon, Ohio, Ruby Kelly of Middletown, Ohio, Janice Conway of Frenchburg, Ky and one brother Lester Gibbs of Summerville, Ohio. Seven grandchildren Gary Hale, Jason Hale, Roger Smallwood Jr., Stacy Smallwood, Ryan Smallwood, Cody Smallwood, Teresa Maynard. Five great grandchildren Javen Smallwood, Megan Smallwood, Kristen Smallwood, Ashton Smallwood and Shelby Grace Hale.

Funeral services will be held 1 PM Friday December 14, 2007 at Menifee Home For Funerals with Rev. David Hale officiating. Burial in the Lovelace Cemetery, Mariba, Ky. Visitation 6 PM Thursday Menifee Home For Funerals, Frenchburg, Ky.

Pallbearers will be Roger Smallwood Jr., Stacy Smallwood, Gary Hale, Jason Hale Ryan Smallwood & Cody Smallwood.”

Be careful not to confuse her with Betty Jo Gibbs, born 3 Sep 1932 in Paintsville, Johnson Co., Ky, daughter of Rob Gibbs and Hazel McKenzie, who married Wilbur Max Matson and died in Mt. Gilead, Ohio in 2002.
