Notes for Rev. John Calvin Porter
His obituary in the Morehead News reported:

“John C. Porter, age 65 years, passed away Saturday morning at the Baptist General Hospital in Ashland of disease of the bladder, after a brief illness of a few days. Monday evening he was taken suddenly ill at his home and was rushed to the hospital by local undertaker C. W. Henderson, where he was found to be in a serious condition. He seemed at first to improve but just as Dr. H. T. Sparks of this city had predicted, he could never withstand the disease.

His body was brought here by C. W. Henderson, prepared for burial and later taken to the old home near Jacobs, where on the following Sunday it was deposited by the side of his first wife who died several years ago.

He leaves a wife and four children, Mrs. Mary Parker of Farmers, Ky., Mrs. Florence Williams, of Wheelersburg, Ohio, W. A. Porter, of Jacobs, and J. R. Porter, of Elliottsville, Ky.

A strange occurrance (sic) was that just two weeks and two days previous to his death, a brother, Alex Porter, of Jacobs, passed away at the same hospital of the same disease.

Several of his friends from here attended the funeral at Jacobs, where he was buried in the Fairview cemetery.”
