His obituary in the Sandy Valley Enquirer of July 8, 1937 reported:

“Funeral services for John M. Rose, 60, were held Tuesday afternoon from the home with Rev. L. D. Roe in charge and under the direction of the Cox Funeral Home. Mr. Rose died Sunday morning following a long illness. He was born in Wolf county July 3, 1877, the son of Isaac and Durinda Pieratt Rose.

Mr. Rose moved here form West Liberty in Morgan County about 25 years ago. He had been in the mercantile business, both for himself and in partners with M. D. McAllister and at one time with I. B. Cookery. At the time of his death he was connected with the Grayson Realty company.

He leaves besides his widow, one brother, Henry Rose of West Liberty; two sons, William Allen of Prestonburg, and Kent of Cincinnati; and one granddaughter, Mary Catherine.

Music was furnished by Mrs. W. H. Strother, Mrs. Joe Wheeler and E. G. and A. R. Huff. Active pallbearers were: J. A. Bagby, Dr. J. W. Stovall, Wich H. Strother, A. R. Huff, Arthur Gee, John Phillips and M. D. McAllister.

Interment was in the Grayson Memorial Burial Park.”

Her obituary in the Sandy Valley Enquirer of March 5, 1936 reported:

“MOLLIE WOMACK ROSE DIES OF PNEUMONIA

Was Well Known Church and Social Worker; Illness Lasted Only a Few Days

Funeral services for Mrs. Mollie Womack Rose, 70, who died Tuesday morning at 11:45 of pneumonia, will be held in the Methodist Church at 10 o'clock today. The body will lie in state at the Methodist Church from 9 to 10. The funeral will be preached by Rev. L. D. Roe, pastor of the Methodist Church and the Malone Funeral Home will be in charge.

Mrs. Rose was born in Pactolus on August 15, 1865, and was a daughter of W. A. and Katherine Womack. She died Tuesday at the Stovall Memorial hospital here. Mrs. Rose was a devoted member of the M. E. Church here and was taken ill after a day spent in trying to aid others who were in distress.

She is survived by her husband, John M. Rose; two sons, William Allen, of Prestonburg; Kent, of Grayson; one granddaughter, Mary Catherine Rose; a sister, Mrs. A. O. Hannah of Pactolus; a brother, John M. Womack, of Dallas, Texas, and a daughter-in-law, Mrs. William Allen Rose, of Prestonburg. Besides these there is a large number of other relatives and many, many friends.

Honorary pallbearers will be C. B. Wilhoit, Elton Jones, R. M. Bagby, Isiah Houck, H. G. Ault, W. S. Phillips, J. E. Horton, Dr. J. W. Stovall, Prof. H. W. Lusby, Arthur Gee, W. H., Strother, R. W. Botts, J. T. Giles, Archie Nipp, Dr. J. A. Malone, Judge T. D. Theobald, William Conley, James Anglin, Allie Thomason, L. M. Ward, Sandy Hook; Dr. W. R. Callihan, Prestonburg, and J. B. Hannnah, Ashland.

Active pallbearers will be: S. L. Womack, Homer Womack, M. D. McAllister, W. D. Jones, Bud Anglin, Alvin Womack, Emmmet Hannah, and Rupert Wilhoit.

Following the funeral, burial will be made in the Hannah Cemetery at Pactolus.”
