In 1930 and 1940 Edgar is recorded with his parents, in 1930 as married, and in 1940 as divorced:

Hardin, Wm, 69, age at first marriage 18, farmer; Mary F., wife, 68, age at first marriage 17; Milton, son, 47, widowed, age at first marriage 24; Edgar, son, 28, married, age at first marriage 24; Russel P., grandson, 16. All born Ky Ky Ky.
(The grandson Russell is not the son of Milton; he is really a Prather, the son of Wesley Prather and Bessie Hardin, who died in 1913.)

Her gravestone, a single one, is heart-shaped and is inscribed “Our Dearest Mother Lottie Sweeney 1908 1983”

Bettie should be recorded as a Hardin. After Everett died, Lottie remarried to Edgar Hardin, but they divorced and she returned to going by Sweeney.

Bettie should be recorded as a Hardin. After Everett died, Lottie remarried to Edgar Hardin, but they divorced and she returned to going by Sweeney.
Notes for Edgar & Lottie (Family)
Edgar and Lottie probably married in 1936 or early 1937. The marriage did not last long; by the 1940 census Edgar was recorded as divorced, and Lottie had returned to her first married name of Sweeney, and reported herself as a widow. It is possible, though, that they were really only separated pending a divorce at that time, because Lottie’s daughter Creta, born in July 1941 and hence more than a year after the 1940 census was named as a Hardin, and presumably Edgar was her father.
