Clark Co., Indiana marriage records list the marriage on 4 Sep 1906 of John D. Royse, age 21, born 28 Jan 1885 in Rowan Co., Ky, father John Royse, mother’s maiden name Alice Jerralds, to Alice G. Packham, age 18, born 19 Sep 1887 in Louisville, Ky, father J. W. Packham, mother’s maiden name Stella Rider.
This is a somewhat different birthdate than was recorded on his military and death records, but I cannot find evidence of there being two different John D. Royses born in Rowan Co. about that time frame with a mother named Alice. The censuses suggest that he was born about 1886.
I suspect that this marriage ended in divorce, because in the 1910 census, John was recorded as married, but without a wife in the household, suggesting that they were separated.
