Notes for Rose F. Grisso
Her obituary in the South Bend Tribune, 31 Aug 1947 has Rose born 24 Aug 1881. This cannot be right, since the 1880 census of Pleasant twp, Wabash Co., IN, recorded in June, has Rose as two months old.
1900 census of Tippecanoe twp, Kosciusko Co., Ind. has Rose born 20 Apr 1880, living with her husband Arthur Secrist. However, since the census taker was not required to take the day of birth (only month), and since he has both Arthur and Rose being born the same day of the month as the number of years of age they are, it is likely that he just put the age down in two columns.
1900 census of Cleveland twp, Whitley Co., Ind. has Rose born Apr 1880, listed with her parents. Apparently she was just visiting, and got counted twice!
Ken Fawley's family group chart has her birthdate as 24 Aug 1880. He doesn't cite his source for this date, but I imagine he took the obituary date and changed the year to match the census records.
