Notes for Jacob Naff Sr.
The LDS Ancestral File lists Jacob Naff Sr., 23WL-B8, son of Jacob Naff and Anna Elernopage, with a death date of 26 Sep 1749, which precedes his marriage date (1755) and the birth of all of his children. He is linked to what is really the same wife entered in three different records. (See her notes for details.) One of them, Eva Flora BWC8-ZF, also has an impossibly early death date. Since the death dates are fully specific, they may represent those of a different Jacob and Elizabeth Naff, taken from cemetery records and applied to the wrong couple. In the Ancestral File, Jacob's date of birth is given as 1726; my records had 16 Mar 1734, but I don't know what my source for it was.
Two of these families list the same eight children by name, and mostly in the same order, but only Jacob Jr. is the same individual record; the others are all duplicate entries.
The family under wife Eva FLORA have children with their surname spelled as NAVE, and AFN numbers starting with NC, except for two who come from a different submission (Jacob NAFF Jr., 23WL-8W, who is linked to both versions of the family, and Elizabeth NAFF OR KNAVE, 2QJ0-Q1.) The NAVE entries have birthdates for the children ranging from "after 1768" to "after 1776" in one year increments, and appear to have been derived by assuming that Jacob Jr. was the oldest, and that there must have been at least a year spacing between children. In the version of the family with wife Katherine FLORIN OR EVA CAT (obviously a variant on the given name is mistakenly entered as part of the surname), the children's surnames are all entered as NAFF, and the AFN's begin with 23W (like those of their parents.) This is the version of the family I am using for birthdates and birth order, since the NAVE version was obviously calculated from the Jacob Jr. who appears in both families, but putting him first. I am not ignoring the NAVE version, though, because it has more complete marriage information for the children.
Notes for Eva Catherina Flora
Jacob Naff's wife appears in the LDS Ancestral File under three records:
As Eva FLORA, BWC8-ZF, b. Aug 1733 on ship, d. 28 Aug 1733 in Philadelphia, married before 1767. This death date is clearly impossible for the mother of eight children, though it may represent correct dates for an infant Eva Flora who was born on ship and died upon arrival.
As Katherine FLORIN OR EVA CAT, 23WL-CF, d/o Joseph FLURE OR FLORA, b. on ship (no date given), christened 8 Sep 1722, d. 1820 in Franklin Co., VA, m. 1755. If the christening date is correct, then she would be born about Aug 1722. But that would seem to make her too old to be having children born 1780, so perhaps 1733 was misread as 1722 in the christening date. I have entered it that way, but for confirmation I need to find out when Joseph Flora arrived on the ship Hope.
As Katherine FLORA, NCPT-MB, no other data and no children in family.
