In her first application for admittance to the Indiana State Soldiers’ Home, dated 8 May 1909, she reported that she was born 13 Oct 1860 near North Manchester, Indiana, that she had resided in Indiana all her life, her address was North Wabash St., Wabash, Ind, that she was the wife of John W. Blockson, that they were married on 10 May 1901 at Wabash, Indiana, that she had been previously married to Francis M. Coburn, now deceased, on 26 Dec 1878 at Wabash, Indiana, that she was the mother of one living child by her first husband, John Coburn, age 26, Cottage Ave., Wabash, Ind, that she had no income or property, that she was blind in her left eye and had rheumatism but was otherwise in good health.
In her second application, dated 2 June 1914,contains the same information except that it reports the date of her marriage to John W. Blockson as 10 May 1902, and it reports that her husband died in 1910 at Spiker, Wabash Co., Indiana. It is unclear whether on this line she is referring to her first or second husband, but either way, it seems odd, since John was still living, and in her 1909 application she reported that Francis was dead. Her son John F. Coburn is reported as living in Kokomo, Indiana.
Her gravestone in Friends Cemetery is next to that of John, and is inscribed Mary Catherine Blockson, died May 3, 1930, age 69 years 6 months 27 days.
The age at death would imply a birthdate of 7 Oct 1860, which is inconsistent with the applications.
