Notes for Engelina Gerst
Christening p. 13B (see Notes for her father) as Engel d/o Theobald Gerst & his wife Maria Catharina. Her father's will refers to her as Engelina, and on her marriage record her name is given as Maria Engel Gerst. For a while I had her name entered as Maria Engelina, and probably she thought of her baptismal name as being Maria Engel, but since the christening record doesn't have it that way, and I prefer that her name show up in short fields as Engelina rather than Maria E, I am leaving off the Maria.

Engelina was disinherited in her father's will, and her share split between her children ("my grandchildren Michael Weidner and Catherina Weidner shall have their Mother's share. But their Mother Engelina shall have not a farthing of it in her hands.") In his Our Garst Family book, William T. Garst writes "It seems that this couple left Pennsylvania for another province before 1770, leaving their two children behind." But he does not present any evidence for this other than the will itself, and to me it seems from the wording just as likely that Engelina was still in Pennsylvania, otherwise, why would the will have had to emphasize that she get not a farthing of her children's inheritance in her hands? (At the time of the will, Michael Weidner was 14 and Catherina was almost 13. In fact, the lack of any younger children suggests that Ludwig may have died much earlier.)
