Notes for Thomas Garst
The LDS IGI, from batch #84 003 09, submitted by Howard Kemp, lists this marriage as Elizabeth Brubaker and Thomas Gharst, m. 11 Nov 1841.

Most information on this family and descendents from pages 290-292 of William T. Garst's Our Garst Family in America, which gives a marriage date of 11 Nov 1842. According to this book, "Thomas Garst came from Botetourt County, Virginia, to Somerset, Indiana in the autumn of 1848. In 1862 he purchased a farm of 420 acres. His house burned in 1872, and in 1873, he built a brick mansion, which is still standing, and which is three miles east of Somerset, Indiana. Every effort has been made to locate an authentic record of the parents of Thomas Garst. Numerous suggested leads have been followed without results. The most promising theory points to John Nicholas Garst, Jr., who left no will, and a complete list of his children has not been determined." (Note: Somerset is in the far south of Wabash Co., at the border with Grant Co., on Mississinewa Lake.)
