A profile of this family is on p. 47 of Lester Binnie's Early Brethren Families of the Eel River Congregation. It states that John J. Frantz was known as "Black John", due to his dark hair, and that the family lived about two miles west of the present West Manchester Church. His neighbors in 1870 were D. S. Butterbaugh and Adam Ohmart.

His stone in Cripe Cemetery states Jacob died 3 Apr 1907, aged 81 y 11 m 4 d.
