Notes for John Bowman
Lindsay Brien's "Miami Valley Genealogies", Vol. 2, p. 25, lists as a son of John Bowman & Elizabeth Bright: "John, born Mar. 7, 1833, married Apr. 7, 1867, Catharine Keener (daughter of John and Mary.)" However, on the next page, in a list of cemetery records, in a section labelled "Children of John & Elizabeth (Bright) Bowman", is a stone in the Trissel Cem, next to a wife Catherine, which reads: "Rev. John J. Bowman d. July 14, 1919, age 80 yrs 11 mo. 21 da." This would imply a birthdate of 24 July 1838. Either one of the dates is in error, or there are two John Bowmans of the same generation with wives named Catherine, and the one buried in Trissel Cemetery is not really a child of John & Elizabeth (Bright) Bowman. I am assuming the latter, because "The Heeter Family Letters" also has the 7 Mar 1833 date, and says that John & Catherine are buried in Bear Creek Cemetery.
Notes for Catharine Keener
According to Lindsey Brien's "Miami Valley Genealogies", Catherine is buried in Trissel Cemetery in Jackson twp, and her stone reads: Catharine Bowman d. June 17, 1892, age 55 yrs, 5 mo. 23 da., which implies a birthdate of Christmas, 1836. According to the chart at the back of "The Heeter Family Letters", which was primarily compiled by Robert McNelly of New Lebanon, OH, and Lawrence Mitchell of Dayton, Catherine and John are buried in Bear Creek Cemetery in Madison twp, and her stone indicated she died 30 June 1894, and was born 23 Jan 1841. I am using the latter dates, because a birthdate in 1836 would conflict with that for her bother John, and also because McNelly and Mitchell were concentrating on building a Heeter descendency chart, whereas Lindsey Brien was publishing data on many different Miami Valley families, and may not have been able to take as much care about distinguishing one John & Catherine Bowman from another.
