Oros died in a bizarre accident at the age of 23. He was part of the honor guard at a ceremony at Gettysburg, Pennsylvania on 21 Sep 1887, dedicating a monument to Ohio's Civil War soldiers who died at Gettysburg, and he was accidentally shot by the salute!
